About Me Publications
Dr. Sylvain Barbot is an Associate Professor at the University of Southern California, where he researches the earthquake phenomenon, including the physics of friction, crustal dynamics, and lithosphere dynamics during the seismic cycle. His research combines laboratory friction experiments, numerical modeling, and tectonic geodesy. Sylvain studied earthquake physics and tectonic geodesy at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography of the University of California at San Diego, and, as a postdoc, at the California Institute of Technology. Before his appointment at the University of Southern California, he was a Nanyang Assistant Professor and National Research Fellow at the Earth Observatory of Singapore and the Asian School of the Environment, Nanyang Institute of Technology. He was a Visiting Professor at the Earthquake Research Institute of the University of Tokyo, the Institute of Geology of the China Earthquake Administration, the Peking University, and the California Institute of Technology.
