Akash Bhatthal is a software engineer at the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC), where he maintains and develops OpenSHA, an open-source Java platform for seismic hazard analysis. Previously, he worked at Google on YouTube Search infrastructure in C++. Since 2024, he has led the OpenSHA v25.4 release, adding community ERFs, GCIM integration, and the GetFile framework for large datasets, as well as tools like OpenSHA-Jupyter and PdfGen. He has also optimized UCERF3-ETAS simulations on major HPC systems, enhancing the reproducibility, scalability, and accessibility of seismic hazard and aftershock modeling.
