About Me Publications
I was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I am currently a student at Southern Illinois University Carbondale working towards a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science. When I was 13 years old, my father — a businessman providing services to gas stations around Puerto Rico — took me to his office to work together on the design of a Point of Sales software that would satisfy the general needs of gas station managers. I became amazed by what I learned by my father’s side, and decided to learn how to code. Two years later, my dad’s POS software was fully developed and I had taught myself how to program in Java. I told my dad I would create a smartphone application that would accompany his POS software. With this commitment to programming, I chose Computer Science as my career path, and am now in the process of becoming a software engineer.
During my time in school, I have been involved in the Computer Science Department, and dedicate a large portion of my time to enhance the school and community via volunteerism, including training kids in HTML/CSS at local schools, preparing foods for homeless people, etc. In the past three years, I have been able to design and create several mobile applications. I have developed a deep understanding of vulnerabilities of different networks and systems, and have learned how to protect these systems. Additionally, I currently work as a Web Developer for Southern Illinois University’s Housing Department, where I work with Ruby on Rails to maintain and update the web portal.
