COVID INFORMATION
At time of posting, the CDC has updated its Respiratory Virus Guidance for protections against spread of COVID-19, RSV and Flu. While community transmission rates are low and vaccination rates are high, the nature of this event (dense gatherings in indoor spaces) calls for additional prevention strategies. For SCEC2024, high-efficacy masks (N95, KN95 or KF94) will be encouraged in plenary and poster sessions.
Attendees should be free from recent close exposure to COVID-19, and free from COVID-19 symptoms. Participants should be prepared to “mask when asked” to keep our community safe and comfortable. If official guidance changes due to increased community spread or new variants, masking may become required.
MEETING VENUE
FLIGHTS AND GROUND TRANSPORT
Participants are advised to fly into Palm Springs Airport (PSP), located 2 miles from the venue. The Hilton Palm Springs Resort offers complimentary airport shuttle service. Call the Hilton front desk (1-760-320-6868) to schedule a ride.
LODGING
A block of rooms at the Hilton Palm Springs Resort is reserved for the SCEC Annual Meeting at the federal per diem rate of $142 per night. Any additional fees and local taxes will be displayed per recent changes in California law. The hotel may charge the first night’s deposit at check-in. Participants are responsible for any hotel penalties (such as no-show or early departure fees), so make your reservation carefully.
Reservations can be made through the Hilton Honors website and use group code SCEC, by calling the front desk at 760-320-6868 and mentioning promo code SCEC, or by using this direct link.
Many hotels are within walking distance of the venue. Use the Hilton address (400 E. Tahquitz Canyon) to search for nearby options on your favorite travel site.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
The venue is ADA compliant and offers guest rooms with accessibility features. Please inquire with the hotel about specific needs. All guest rooms at the Hilton are within 200 yards of meeting spaces, so no additional space has been designated for Multi-Faith, Family, Low-Sensory or Lactation Rooms. Participants requiring these accommodations who cannot secure a suitable room at the Hilton should contact SCEC Meetings for assistance.
Group meals will be buffet-style and with sufficient options for most participants. Attendees with dietary restrictions should inquire with the hotel banquet staff about specific ingredients or replacement meals if necessary. Contact SCEC Meetings to be put in touch with the banquet manager in advance for special arrangements.
The Statewide California Earthquake Center is committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming environment for all participants. We take pride in fostering a diverse and inclusive SCEC community, and therefore expect all participants to abide by the SCEC Activities Code of Conduct.
