About Me Publications
My name is Yajaira De Haro, and I am an undergraduate student at San Jose State University majoring in Information Science and Data Analytics. I transferred in Spring 2025 from community college with an AS-T in Mathematics. My career interests lie in software engineering and data science. I also currently serve as the webmaster for the ASIS&T SJSU Student Chapter and I am an SJSU Online Student Ambassador, where I support fellow students and help create digital communications. These roles have enhanced my skills in communication, leadership, and web design. As a first generation college student, I am passionate about increasing access to technology and am especially committed to empowering underrepresented communities through education and advocacy.

Through my academic journey, I have developed a strong foundation in programming, data analysis, and mathematics. I'm currently focused on strengthening my skills in Python, and have a growing interest in machine learning, particularly its application to socially impactful issues. As a SCEC intern, I am working on a research project, under the mentorship of PI Alba Rodriguez Padilla, in collaboration with Tom Rockwell and Kate Scharer. As part of a larger initiative, I am helping compile and curate a database of geomorphic and paleoseismic offsets along the San Andreas plate boundary system. I'm excited to put what I've learned during my undergrad journey to use and excited to learn more as a SCEC intern!

I hope to get research experience that aligns with my interests in ethical AI, human-centered computing, and health or education technologies. I'm especially interested in learning more about how to apply machine learning to real-world challenges. I'm excited to work with a mentor who can help me grow as a researcher and develop the skills I'll need for graduate school and beyond.
