Karen Rodriguez is a rising senior at Stanford University studying Earth & Planetary Sciences on the engineering geology track with a focus in surface deformation through planetary surface processes. She is particularly interested in seismology and detecting active volcanism on terrestrial planets.

In addition to her primary field of study, Karen has a strong interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning. She has worked on various research projects at Stanford creating metadata to build the datasets used to train machine learning algorithms. These algorithms typically used Natural Language Processing and the research ranged in topics from sustainability policy to women's roles in higher education.

Karen hopes to combine her interests in planetary science and machine learning together in her future studies.
