As a former PCC Lancer, who is now a Cal Poly Pomona Bronco, Suzie's career interests include hydrocarbon reservoir exploration and seismology derived from learning about the geophysical principles of the Earth. Aside from loving physics, she acquired a passion for rocks after taking her first geology class. She enjoys the hands-on approach and quantitative methods applied in geoscience. Suzie has been involved in fieldwork over the western U.S. and has experience in both field and GIS mapping.

Suzie calls Los Angeles, CA home and her interest in applying for the UseIT opportunity at SCEC lied in the research aspect of the program, which would serve to help better her understanding of earthquake risk and forecasting on the San Andreas Fault system. Through her research, she learned about the importance of earthquake preparedness from assessing hazards and risks using a physics-based earthquake forecasting model, Rate-State earthQuake Simulator (RSQSim), and FEMA's HAZUS application, including the vital role programming languages play in seismology. This led her to expand her knowledge of Python. Suzie enjoys getting outdoors, playing guitar, and photography during her spare time.
