SCEC2026 Plenary Talk, Ground Motions (GM)
SCEC Ground Motion Tools Supporting Engineering Applications
Oral Presentation
2026 SCEC Annual Meeting, SCEC Contribution #15652
SCEC has developed a suite of community products that connect earthquake science and ground motion simulations with engineering and risk analyses. This presentation highlights four complementary tools and their roles in engineering applications: (1) CyberShake for large datasets of 3D simulated seismograms and seismic hazard data products, (2) the Broadband Platform (BBP) for 1D broadband ground motion simulation and validation using historical events, (3) the Ground Motion Simulation Validation (GMSV) Toolkit for evaluating simulations against observations using engineering-relevant metrics, and (4) the Utilization of Ground Motion Simulations (UGMS) tool for bringing simulated ground motions into structural design workflows. Example use cases will demonstrate how these products support ground motion simulation, validation, and characterization for analyses of structural response. The presentation will also discuss opportunities to expand these capabilities and make them more accessible for researchers and engineers.
