Interferometric synthetic-aperture radar (InSAR) interferograms are a valuable tool that can tell us about the fault systems hidden beneath the surface of the Earth. In a new approach, we fit InSAR ground deformation data using a distribution of seismic point sources of fixed location and orientation with variable seismic moment. An estimate of each source's seismic moment is determined using a least-squares minimization. We fit an ALOS-2 InSAR interferogram containing the ground deformation caused by the 2015 Nepal earthquake using this approach and determine a distribution of point sources that best recreates the data. We finally perform a multifractal analysis on the resulting distribution of seismic moments and find that it exhibits multifractal properties.
