Ana Sotelo is an undergraduate student at UW-Madison studying Geoscience and Cartography & GIS. As a SCEC SOURCES 2024 intern, her project focuses on improving our understanding of seismic site response in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Basins by analyzing key geometric parameters such as sediment thickness, basin depth, and geomorphic classifications. Through this work, Ana aims to help characterize how local geology and geomorphology influence ground shaking during earthquakes.
Beyond this project, she has conducted research on pseudotachylyte veins along the Main Central Thrust Fault in Nepal to investigate and date fault zone processes. Ana is passionate about combining fieldwork, GIS, and geophysical methods to study tectonic hazards and plans to pursue graduate research in earthquake science.
