Bryan Sarabia is an undergraduate student at the University of Southern California majoring in Journalism and Spanish. He is a student worker with the Communication, Education and Outreach department at SCEC and is a SURE Intern for the summer of 2024. Since 2022, Bryan has helped coordinate participation in the Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills across the state and country; he is a small part of a big team that helps millions practice earthquake preparedness every year. On occasion, he does outreach work throughout Southern California for the Earthquake Country Alliance, an organization of public-private partnerships that work together to improve earthquake preparedness, mitigation and resilience.
Aside from his role at SCEC, Bryan has experience working at ABC7 Los Angeles as a News Assistant and Acting Assignment Editor. He’s also published stories with the Los Angeles School Report, an online news publication focused on public education in L.A.
Bryan hopes to combine his experience in media with his knowledge of emergency preparedness to help the public become more proactive in their efforts to survive and thrive after natural disasters. Originally from Houston, Texas, Bryan has lived through several hurricanes and recognizes the importance of preparing for catastrophic natural events. Fluent in English and Spanish, he aims to work with multilingual communities to ensure everyone, regardless of their background, has access to accurate preparedness information.
