ARES LAX provides hospital communications support during disasters in Los Angeles County using amateur radio. We employ tools like email-over-radio (Winlink), high speed data networking (AREDN mesh) and other techniques that work in the absence of commercial infrastructure.

In 2020 we collaborated with USGS to bring DYFI reporting to Winlink, that is email-over-radio, providing a possible path to collecting intensity data without local internet.
