The state of the art in using Cybershake to estimate seismic hazard requires validation. For low probabilities (long repeat times, thousands of years) the only method available at present is study of precariously balanced rocks (PBRs). Quantification of this process requires accurate estimates of the fragilities of these rocks, and an estimate of the length of time they have been in place. The work carried out here involves testing and photomodeling of PBRs and comparison of waveforms predicted by Cybershake. |
Broader Impacts
|
The ultimate goal of this research is understanding of seismic hazard and communicating this to the public. The objectives of this research are basically the same as the objectives of SCEC as a whole. |
