For this examination of the marsh history of the Ballona Lagoon, all the pollen records available for southern California were examined. In particular, those from coastal wetlands with dated contexts were used for comparison with the records from the Ballona Lagoon. The results are a record of southern California post Glacial sea level rise and subsequent variations as they affected coastal marshes. Changing coastal geomorphology during the Holocene is also examined as it relates to marsh history.
