Our communication has an impact. When we are communicating about earthquakes--which can affect people’s lives, livelihoods, and mental health—what we say and how we say it is central to building trust, understanding, and resilience. In this talk we will discuss the hazards communication cycle, the role of trust in comms, alternatives to the deficit model, and the importance of knowing your audience. We will also talk through opportunities and recommended practices for communicating about earthquakes in crisis and calm.
