Project Abstract
The objective of the study is to find the shear wave velocity and structure of the Los Angeles Basin using a dense broadband survey across it. The shear wave velocity was determined by applying standard surface wave dispersion analysis to ambient noise correlations. The structure was determined from receiver functions determined from telesiesmic waves from two events. The results show the basin-basement interface is at 8 km and the Moho rises approximately 10 km under the basin.
Intellectual Merit This study improves the velocity and structure model for the Los Angeles Basin
Broader Impacts This study contributes to the understanding and quantification of the seismic hazard in the Los Angeles region.
