Project Abstract |
We received funds to support participation of SCEC scientists in the second CORSSA workshop hosted at the Institute of Statistical Mathematics (ISM) in Tokyo, Japan in January 2013. At this workshop, participants began drafting a second round of review articles related to statistical seismicity analysis; these articles are being added to our existing collection that is intended to educate students and researchers. At the workshop, we evaluated the status of the CORSSA software and data repositories and discussed future directions, including whether or not we should expand our scope to include development of a course syllabus, example exercises, and an online course. |
Intellectual Merit | With this workshop, we developed educative materials for the Community Online Resource for Statistical Seismicity Analysis. Review articles were a primary emphasis of this workshop, and these articles will help clarify ongoing debates within the SCEC community and allow newcomers to quickly understand the big picture and subtleties of various SCEC-related issues. |
Broader Impacts | This workshop directly supports teaching, training, and learning at each participant's institution (and therefore across SCEC). J. Zhuang used material that we prepared at this workshop to create a short course in statistical seismicity analysis, and he made the course presentation materials available to the CORSSA community. Moreover, based on this workshop, CORSSA participants led tutorials at the most recent International Statistical Seismology (StatSei) meeting in Beijing. |
