Project Abstract |
The objectives of this work were to increase the number of automatic strain detectors currently in operation at CSEP, and to explore the sensitivity thresholds of existing algorithms. This has been a multi-year project where earlier incarnations involved the support for workshops where numerous participants (funded individually) compared the results of independent analyses of synthetic geodetic data generated by the PI and Duncan Agnew. |
Intellectual Merit | This work is critical to efforts aimed at establishing a system of automated detection of potential geodetic transients in Southern California. While the most obvious application of such a detection system is the characterization of seismic hazard, it also may have the side benefit of enabling better characterization of hydrologic signals. |
Broader Impacts | The applications to seismic hazard and anthropogenic deformations also constitute the broader impacts of this study. |
