Intellectual Merit The relative importance of the San Jacinto and southernmost San Andreas fault zones has been the subject of appreciable focused research (e.g., The SoSAFE Project), from which there is a growing recognition of the importance of the San Jacinto fault zone in accommodating Pacific-North America relative plate motion and as a source of potential earthquake hazards. Our work helps to illuminate along strike changes in fault slip rate with implications for understanding across strike partitioning of plate boundary deformation and seismic hazards associated with the San Andreas fault.
Broader Impacts This project complements an EarthScope REU proposal (SF McGill PI), that has involved REU students and high school teachers in active tectonics research in the Eastern Transverse Ranges Province. The SCEC proposal has supported collaboration between University of Arizona and Cal State San Bernardino, which has in turn enhanced the education of Mr. Josh Spinler who is currently a PhD Student at The University of Arizona.
