This project represents a fundamental component of the USR Focus Area efforts to development community velocity models that are enhanced and evaluated using 3D waveform tomography. These improved models are used as the basis for simulations to forecast the distribution of hazardous ground shaking during large earthquakes, as well as in many other SCEC science efforts. |
Broader Impacts
|
This project involved a post-doctoral research fellow, a senior research associate, the PI, and an international collaborator in Italy. The project established new workflows for meshing and evaluating Community Velocity Models that will be employed in future model releases. The benefits to society are manifest in more accurate strong ground motion simulations based on these models that can be use to assess and mitigate earthquake hazards and risks in southern California. |
