Intellectual Merit Ultimately this project intends to merge geodetic data with geological data by means of fault systems and earthquake simulators to devise a self-consistent system-level model for stress accumulation by tectonic deformations and subsequent release by slip on faults. An over arching direction of SCEC is to bring all its research elements into a "Master Model" type of view. By merging geodesy, geology and earthquake simulators, this project makes a big step in that direction.
Broader Impacts The statement above, fits here too in my opinion.
