Who attends the SCEC Annual Meeting?
 
The meeting brings together a diverse community involved in earthquake science, education, and outreach. Go to the Meeting Participants page to see who’s registered.
  • SCEC project teams are expected to present results from work funded by the annual SCEC Collaboration Plan and other Center initiatives. Presentations will take place during poster sessions, workshops, and/or at working group meetings.
  • SCEC leadership, advisory groups, and full-time staff
  • Agency sponsors and partners supporting Center activities
  • Researchers working on topics aligned with SCEC priorities
  • Academic, government, and industry collaborators in related disciplines (e.g., computational science, earthquake engineering, risk communication)
  • Early career scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate interns, who typically make up over 40% of attendees

What if I have missed the early registration deadline?
  • After August 15, the registration fee increases by $100. See registration page for full details.
What if I have missed the abstract deadline?
  • No late abstract submissions will be accepted.
Is there financial assistance from SCEC to support student participation?
  • SCEC offers Research Travel Awards to support students and early-career researchers presenting earthquake research at professional conferences. Before applying, confirm that no funding is available from your advisor, supervisor, or institution. Assistance is limited and prioritized based on financial need.
  • Apply by July 31, 2025 (5:00pm PT) at: scec.org/research-travel-awards. Note: Financial support may include a registration fee waiver. Applicants should complete the online registration but do not pay the fee until you receive a waiver decision. SCEC cannot provide reimbursement after payment is made.
How do I find my registration payment receipt?
  • Your confirmation email from dtsweb@dornsife.usc.edu serves as your payment receipt.
  • To view your registration details, go to your central.SCEC.org dashboard, click the "Meetings" icon, then select "VIEW REGISTRATION". Your institution may require a screenshot of this page for reimbursement.
What will be available online?
  • The SCEC Annual Meeting is an in-person collaboration meeting. Registered participants will have access to the online poster gallery to view author videos, comment on posters, preview content, and contact presenters.
  • As with all SCEC events, presenters may choose to share materials (slides, videos, PDFs) on the website after the meeting. With permission and post-processing, many will be publicly available by late September.
What are the guidelines for physical and online poster presentations?
  • See the SCEC Poster Session Guide for full details.
  • Physical posters should not exceed 45” x 45”.
  • Online posters include a poster PDF, plus optional 1-minute lightning talk and 5-minute walk-through videos
  • Poster PDFs and videos are due by September 6, 2025.
What does it mean to be assigned to Poster Group A or Poster Group B?
  • Poster presentations are split into two groups:
    • Group A: poster displayed Sunday - Monday
    • Group B: poster displayed Monday - Tuesday
  • Posters will also be viewable online throughout the meeting, with an option to remain public afterward. First Authors will receive detailed setup and takedown instructions for their assigned group.
What accessibility accommodations are available?
  • Live captions will be provided during plenary sessions.
  • Presentation slides (with speaker permission) will be available for download as soon as possible after each talk.
