A Full Waveform Test of the Southern California Velocity Model by the Reciprocity Method
Leo Eisner, & Robert W. ClaytonPublished July 2002, SCEC Contribution #525
We have applied the Reciprocity method (Graves92, Eisner00a) to validate a 3-D velocity model. Reciprocity method enabled us to test large number of small earthquakes illuminating the velocity model from wide range of azimuths with a simple source-time function. To validate the velocity model we first compare individual pairs of data and synthetic seismograms and find explanation for local discrepancies. Then we compare set of attributes between data and synthetics, which let us make more general conclusions about the entire velocity model.
